I just let her. My kids usually dress themselves, with some subliminal and manipulative input from me. This morning, Violet didn't fall for it, and insisted that she pick out her own clothes. I told her this morning that she should choose something else because her outfit didn't match. She confidently informed me that it doesn't "match" but it "goes". Oh well. She looks cute even if her outfit is a little crazy. At least for now, at age 4, I'm only dealing with mismatched clothes, and not pants that show off her butt crack, and shirts that show her belly button. I'm not looking forward to those years.
Also, it could be worse. This is what Lucy put on one of the first time she chose her own outfit.

my daughters come out with some really awful outfits sometimes and they're 6 and 7. unless it's truly humiliating, i let it go.
my 4 year old son, on the other hand, usually does a great job matching up clothes.
Anita's roomate claimed that the reason she was so creative and artistically talented was because her Mom let her wear whatever she wanted. At least V's drawers are full of cute choices so she can't go too wrong. I LOVE the picture of L with the underwear over her pants!! miss you guys
Lucy was so freaking cute!!! I miss that little girl. She grew up too fast. She's beautiful today, but what an adorable baby she was. :)
