I had visions if lying in a hammock with a good book and a limeade while my girls delightfully played in the blow up swimming pool and the sprinklers for hours every day. Sun tans and popcicles and laughter and lazy wonderful days were what I was expecting. Instead, the reality is, my girls are bored and I am going insane. ( and I can't afford the hammock I've been coveting) The blow up pool is too small for them this summer and no longer keeps them happy. Violet doesn't like getting wet in the sprinkler. Lucy and Violet are fighting a lot, whining a lot, and constantly asking me for snacks. 2 hours at the park is nice....but its just 2 hours at the park and we have 12 hours a day to fill. I think they are used to having each minute of their day structured and guided, but my house is not the same as school, and I am not as organized as a teacher.
It will get better. I just gotta come up with a plan, a schedule, a routine. I need ideas to keep my kids happy and entertained. And I need to somehow teach them to entertain themselves once in awhile. I don't have the patience or endurance to entertain them all day, every day. I hope I figure it out in time to actually be able to enjoy summer this year.

I can think of some pretty epic hikes nearby you, that are little girl friendly. Do they like fishing? I think that if I lived in SLC and had time to kill, I would be up the canyons every single day. But that is probably just because I miss them so bad. Hahahah
you think you're bored, you should come hang out with me. no seriously you should come hang out with me. we can bitch together while the kids play. this is going to be one long summer and i'd love to see you.
Let's get the kids together. I am going crazy too.
I did get a 6 month membership to the children's museum, and go to Fairmont Aquatic Center about once a week. We have to get out of the house at least once a day....and preferably do it without spending money.
You sound like the nicest mom ever. I can't think of my mom ever entertaining me as a kid. Literally. One time I said "mom, I'm bored" and she snapped "only boring people get bored!". But whatever, this isn't about my unsolved mommy issues, haha.
lol Reagan - my mom would have said the same thing. But I was the youngest of 6 kids, living in suburbia - so there were always lots of other kids to play with. We don't live in a neighborhood where my kids can freely roam around looking for things to do like I did when I was their age.
Me and my girls would play with you and your girls anytime! I entertain my kids by dropping them off at the gym daycare 4 times a week. Other than that we go swimming, and my kids are still entertained by their backyard blow up pool, except that instead of getting in it they fill it with rocks and crap. So nice.
Also I keep meaning to respond to your comment on my blog, I'm not that amazing of a runner. I'm definitely not naturally a runner, and I'm really really slow. I go about as fast as a chunky girl my size can go. ;)
Hey I'm in the same fix as you BUT I am 32 wks pregnant in FL and I have an only son and I live in the middle of the woods. SOooooo. Go check out my blog and see the list of summer fun to do's I've got. I'd love more ideas if you got em. http://ourhappylittleworld.blogspot.com/2010/06/summer-to-do-list.html
you guys are the best! Seriously, Julie, Nicole and Kate, I am going to get in touch with each of you and make a plan to get together. We can conquer our summer boredom together!
Your sister is going to kick your ass if you don't visit her!
At least you're missing all the gloomy weather!
