This is kinda personal - and so I'm not going to give too many details here....but I wanted to share a little bit. Me, as well as my 5 other siblings were all adopted at birth. We have a very unique family this way - and I love to hear the stories about how my parents got each one of us. I love my family and my parents and couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
A few weeks ago I happened upon some paperwork with the name of the lawyer who facilitated my adoption. I googled him, found him, emailed him and asked if he had any information regarding my adoption or my biological mother. He emailed me back 12 hours later saying that yes, he had my file and could help me get in touch with my bio mom if that is what I wanted. He gave me her address. I wrote her a letter. She wrote me back. We met on Saturday for lunch! Its been a total whirlwind. It all happened so fast. I was just hoping for her name and maybe some medical history - but instead I got much more than that. It was so interesting to look into the face of the woman, who bravely, at age 17, gave birth to me and then walked away so that I could have the kind of life she knew she couldn't provide me with. It was fascinating to hear her story. Its been quite an emotional couple of weeks - but I am so glad that I did this. She seems to be a very grounded, genuine person - and I'm so happy to know her and to be able to tell her "thank you" for giving me such a precious gift, the gift of life as a Shumway.
I have her nose.
And, she is a runner - which inspires me to be one - cause now I know, its in my blood! I can do it!

I am so glad to be a Shumway and be apart of your life. You are one A-MAZ-ING person with a great story.
That is rad
amazing! Growing up I never knew anyone that was adopted. Now I know tons of people that have done international adoptions. Their kids probably won't have a chance like you to met their biological mom but what an opportunity!
just wanted to say that i was really touched by you sharing this. i think it is brave and wonderful of you to both meet your bio mom and to recognize the gift she, and your adopted parents gave you. inspiring.
that is so great michelle! how exciting. I'm so happy for you. i've often wondered if you'd ever get the chance to meet her. i remember you telling us stories about your birth from your uncle(?) i think. what a beautiful story.
Very very cool Michelle...I would love to hear more...lunch soon (I owe you a birthday lunch!)
