Gingerbread Attempt

Today I had the great idea today to make a gingerbread house with my girls. I was inspired by my sister in law, Tammy, who made the most amazing gingerbread land last week. Of course, I bought a kit with the pre-made gingerbread walls and roof, because I am just not as ambitious as Tammy is. We had fun decorating it, but as soon as we finished it, something went terribly wrong.

working hard...

And just when we were almost finished...

Oh well. We'll try again next year.

Awww - the look on your oldest is so sad. Next time try this recipe - it's supper glue for gingerbread houses
White Icing/Frosting

2 large Egg whites
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsps. water
3 cups icing sugar [powdered/confectioners sugar]
Instructions
With an electric mixer, beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and water until frothy.
Mix in powdered sugar; beat on high speed until icing is stiff, 5 to 10 minutes.

Use, or cover up to 8 hours.

Makes about 1-1/2 cups.

When I made them last year it took forever for the icing to set up. Seriously.For.Ever. I tell everyone to put the house together the night before you want to decorate it.

Poor Lucy. She does look sad!

the icing I used is still soft - 7 ours later. Obviously I used the wrong stuff. Oh well. We had fun licking the frosting and eating the candy off our broken house.

Well I am glad that I saw your blog tonight because tomorrow we are building them after Belen gets home from school. I am stealing this icing recipe.

LOL Marie - go ahead.

I found the recipe last year when I made "gingerbread" houses out of Grahm crackers for my daughters 4th birthday party. I made them the night before, transported them in the truck of my car to my friends house and survived five 4 yr olds. Not one broke or fell apart.
